Wallander ...

- Eerie music. Whats going to happen?
- Could feel uneasy about whats going to happen. Uncomftable, Nervous.
- Could lead to a clip of death, or something the viewer wouldn't like to see.
- Feel unesay because its a black screne and the audience don't know whats going to happen, Will carry on feeling uneasy until you can see something.

- Tracks over the sea, up to a bleak looking island, dark adn life-less , music carries on over the sea and land.
- Feel less uneasy, sounds doesn't match the visual appearence of the landscape.
- Wind sound affect.

- People walking, Are they the only two people on the island?
- What are they doing on the island?
- Tracks over the island follows the two girls from behind. this shot may have been used so not too much information is given away.

- Girls walking away from the car.
- Close up of blood in the car, but can see them walking in the background.
- What did they do?
- How did they know the person in the car?
- They look dirty and look slightly angry.
- Red in her hair shows she could be quite dangerous.

The Sixth Sense ...

The main conventions in this opening sequence is the eerie music.
- the eerie music is low pitch and there are wind noises.
Most of the opening sequence is the titles.
The music in the background makes the audience nervous and uneasy.
The light bulb slowly turns on and brings the sequence to the actuall film.
When the woman is in the frame there is hyperbolic sound for her footsteps and the door opening.
There is a close up of the woman looking for a bottle, this is also gives the impression that the woman is being watched through the wine rack.
The breathing from the woman is hyperbolic.
Low key lighting is used.
She runs up the stairs, this shows something is there and makes the audience uneasy again.

Brick ...

Brick fits in with the Thriller genre by the use of;
- Close up Shots. This makes the audience only see certain parts of the scene. This makes the audience wonder what is being left out. The use of close ups, it leaves out important information.
- The narrative is non-linier, this means it goes from the end to the start. This makes the audience ask questions about whats been happening.
- Questions being asked, this is a main convention of the 'thriller genre'.
This film opening, uses alot of close ups, this makes the viewer have to think about the storyline.

What I Learnt Last Lesson ...

Last lesson we got our Brief for this project...
'The Titles and opening of a new fiction film to last a maximum of 2 minuets'.
After, we were given the mark scheme and shown what level we should be aiming for. It is a group project however we will be getting marks on our individual contribution.
We went through the differences of a thriller and a horror.
- A horror normally has lots of crime and violence, whereas a thriller makes you ask questions and makes you imagine whats happened.
We looked at the 'Conventions Of Thrillers' they included :
- Eerie Music
- Fog
- Night Time
- Ask Questions
- Cliff Hanger
- Crime
- Suspense
- Jumpy
- Tension
- Sophisticated
- Twists
Lastly we was the opening of 'Memento' ( Nolan, 2000, US ). Whilst watching this we had to find the conventions of a Thriller.

WWW and EBI ...

WWW:
The stuff we actually filmed was good and once it was all edited it all went together nicely.

EBI:
More time planning out where to film, so we didn’t have to change rooms. Also if we had longer to plan and film so we could have improved the story.

Reflections on filming ...

Filming went off to a good start, we had most the filming done within an hour, but the room we were using wasn’t available for the second hour so we had to change rooms. However we had to re-shoot the whole film again so that it followed the rules of continuity editing more.

Reflection On Planning The Sequence ...

We got into our group and talked through the ideas each of us had. Then after, we came up with one final idea and made a brainstorm. After this we created a storyboard.

The Task Set ...

In groups we were asked to create a short film including someone opening a door, then sitting on a chair and have a conversation. It also had to follow continuity editing.

Continuity Editing ...

Continuity editing is used to create a more smooth transaction from shot to shot without the viewer noticing.

180 Degree Rule – Make sure the camera is on the same side of the person so it doesn’t confuse the audience.
Eye Line Match – Used in conversations, looks towards the source of the sound and then cuts to the place they were looking.
Shot Reverse Shot – Mainly used in conversations, used to see other people’s reaction.
Match On Action - Where a character carries out an action, then cuts and in the new shot they are finishing the action.
Master Shot – Shows the audience the setting and the relationships between the characters.
