Why Memento is a thriller...

Memento ( Nolan, 2000, US )

Memento fits into the thriller genre because it uses many of the main conventions of a thriller film.
For example in the opening of the film there are many different shot times. The most common shot types are long shot, close up and extreme up.

This is the opening close up shot of the film. This shows the audience a little information, but also the stuff that it outside of the frame is important to because it leaves the audience wondering and asking questions.

This image would make the audience ask, 'why has he got this photo?'.
Most thrillers have a non-linear narrative, this film fits in with this convention because its not in time order

There is an element of shock in this film, when the man gets shot.
