Last lesson we got our Brief for this project...
'The Titles and opening of a new fiction film to last a maximum of 2 minuets'.
After, we were given the mark scheme and shown what level we should be aiming for. It is a group project however we will be getting marks on our individual contribution.
We went through the differences of a thriller and a horror.
- A horror normally has lots of crime and violence, whereas a thriller makes you ask questions and makes you imagine whats happened.
We looked at the 'Conventions Of Thrillers' they included :
- Eerie Music
- Fog
- Night Time
- Ask Questions
- Cliff Hanger
- Crime
- Suspense
- Jumpy
- Tension
- Sophisticated
- Twists
Lastly we was the opening of 'Memento' ( Nolan, 2000, US ). Whilst watching this we had to find the conventions of a Thriller.

WWW and EBI ...
WWW:
The stuff we actually filmed was good and once it was all edited it all went together nicely.
EBI:
More time planning out where to film, so we didn’t have to change rooms. Also if we had longer to plan and film so we could have improved the story.

Reflections on filming ...
Filming went off to a good start, we had most the filming done within an hour, but the room we were using wasn’t available for the second hour so we had to change rooms. However we had to re-shoot the whole film again so that it followed the rules of continuity editing more.

Reflection On Planning The Sequence ...
We got into our group and talked through the ideas each of us had. Then after, we came up with one final idea and made a brainstorm. After this we created a storyboard.
The Task Set ...
In groups we were asked to create a short film including someone opening a door, then sitting on a chair and have a conversation. It also had to follow continuity editing.
Continuity Editing ...
Continuity editing is used to create a more smooth transaction from shot to shot without the viewer noticing.
180 Degree Rule – Make sure the camera is on the same side of the person so it doesn’t confuse the audience.
Eye Line Match – Used in conversations, looks towards the source of the sound and then cuts to the place they were looking.
Shot Reverse Shot – Mainly used in conversations, used to see other people’s reaction.
Match On Action - Where a character carries out an action, then cuts and in the new shot they are finishing the action.
Master Shot – Shows the audience the setting and the relationships between the characters.
