Title Sequences of Se7en

There are 9 still shots of the opening of the film 'Se7en'.
In the opening there are close ups of hands, book and the writing.
The opening seems very confusing because the close ups don't show that much, so there is a lot that the audience wont see. This will make them wonder.
The use of the font and music go well together because its got quite a scratchy effect.
The shots used are very shadowy and make it look disturbing.

Why Memento is a thriller...

Memento ( Nolan, 2000, US )

Memento fits into the thriller genre because it uses many of the main conventions of a thriller film.
For example in the opening of the film there are many different shot times. The most common shot types are long shot, close up and extreme up.

This is the opening close up shot of the film. This shows the audience a little information, but also the stuff that it outside of the frame is important to because it leaves the audience wondering and asking questions.

This image would make the audience ask, 'why has he got this photo?'.
Most thrillers have a non-linear narrative, this film fits in with this convention because its not in time order

There is an element of shock in this film, when the man gets shot.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

To find out the main conventions of a thriller film I watched many openings to thriller film, for example I watched
-The Sixth Sense- This had a very long title sequence, then a number of different shot type,
- Close ups, Extreme close ups, point of view shots
-Brick – This had a short title sequence, and then gradually gave the audience information about the crime that had just happened.
-Close ups, Extreme close ups, long shots
-Memento- Flash backs. - Loads of close up showing only certain parts of the action, leaving the audience to guess and question what was going on.
In my opening sequence I used many conventions of a thriller. The main convention was the long, dragged out title sequence. Also I used loads of flash backs, as the little girl is shown in the house, and different times once she’s died.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Before I started making my film I created a questionnaire to find out the main age groups that watched and enjoyed Thriller films. I Asked 10 people of various ages, and as an outcome I found that from the age from about 15 and up.
I decided that I was going to make it appeal for 15 upwards. Most types of thrillers I found to be more favoured were, jumpy with flashbacks from the past and present. So due to the answers I got from my questionnaire, I used many flash backs and tried to make the audience ask many questions by the change in the tenses.
